Rose Hip Seed Oil

I'm on a never ending quest to find the miracle product to help with my acne and acne scars. Yeah, that thing that's supposed to leave when you get out of puberty. Yeah, that thing. It's been with me since I was 12. I'm nearly 30. Enough is enough!

No doctor has been able to tell me what is causing it and how to get rid of it. Oh, sure they prescribe pills and creams- some of which are so toxic that you can't even think about getting pregnant, because you might seriously screw up the baby. You know that's something I want to take (insert sarcastic snicker here).

So, in good conscience I had to stop using the "cream that can kill your baby" and try to find something else that would work. I still use coconut oil and it has been great, but it is not the miracle product I was hoping for. So what to do now.

During one of the"classes" I attended during our vacation I learned about a product that I never knew about-- Rose Hip Seed Oil. It apparently works wonders on wrinkles and scars. I saw some before and after pictures of both acne scars and wrinkles. I got excited. Maybe this is just the product I need.

I went to my local health food store, Harmony Farms, and bought some. Actually this is the exact product I bought. I just bought it a couple of weeks ago, so it hasn't had time to produce any drastic results. But I have faith that this will help with some of the scarring and keep away some future wrinkles.

I will report on the results as I use it for the next couple of months. I think this is a worthwhile product to research for scarring and wrinkles. It's a natural oil produced from the seeds of a rose bush and full of Vitamins A and C and essential fatty acids. Many beauty products use this oil, so why not go directly to the source without any of the other added ingredients.

Keeping my fingers crosses that this will prove to be beneficial.

Keepin' it real . . .

I had two Krispy Kreme donuts yesterday and a slice of peach pie with ice cream all before noon. It could not be helped.

Sigh.

Some Vacation Pics

Here are some of the highlights of our vacation.

Meri and me ready to brave the "rapids" . . .

It's Deliverance meets Titanic. Can't you just hear the banjo music and Celine Dion?

At the top of the mountain (courtesy of the ski lift).

I've fallen and I can't get up.

Ahh, back safe in the arms of my man.

Contemplation and horses' behinds.

All perty and ready to attend the winemaker's dinner, where they proceed to give you 5 large glasses of different wines. It takes three sips to make me loopy . . . you do the math.

Grant and I all dressed up!

Three very large bears.

Right Now I am . . .

drinking : raspberry leaf organic tea-- 15 points if you can figure out why.

feeling : desperate to go home. i have nothing to do at work right now and hate wasting my precious time sitting and pretending to be busy. hope the bosses aren't reading this.

listening : to the whir of my space heater and the creaking of my office windows.

watching : the clock move entirely too slowly.

loving : my moda fabrics. i just ordered another charm pack for another quilt. this will make quilt number 4. quilting rocks. now what to do with all these quilts. i've entertained the idea of opening an etsy store to sell some handmade cards and maybe when i get good enough, some quilts. it would be awesome to bring in a little extra money one of these days.

hoping : for a quick work week.

wishing : for peace on earth

We are back

We had such a great time with our friends up in the mountains of Virginia. There was much laughing, rafting, eating, swimming, movie watching and exploring that happened.

It was so nice to get away from the monotony of every day life. How many times can you raft down a river and see cows sharing the same space as you all while singing the whole theme song to Prince of Bel Air and the Brady Bunch. Or tye dye a t-shirt and be truly perplexed about the colors and swirl outcome. Or learn about herbs and aromatherapy with a bunch of 80-year-olds. Or scream like a girl while going down a blacked out water slide. Or fight the urge to laugh at the all too self absorbed yoga teacher. Or splash around the pool with strangers in an attempt at water aerobics. Or ride a ski lift to the top of a mountain and spot critters you have never seen before. Or horseback ride down a mountain with a horse that is known for biting the behind of the horse in front of him (and he did it too). Or drink a bit too much wine at the Virginian winemaker's dinner and laugh so hard at an original Meri song that it hurt.

What great memories! I'll have some pictures of up soon. Our internet at home has decided not too work right now, so it may be a few days.

Vacation

Alright my peeps, I will be absent for at least a week because we are finally going on vacation!

Somewhere in the mountains of Virginia, I believe. Should be fun. Hopefully, I'll get a tan.

I hope to be able to share some fun vacation pictures when I get back!

Have a blessed week!

My Peace Girls . . .

I was so, so fortunate to be able to go to a small, all women's college. So fortunate even, that I'm still paying for those wonderful memories in the form of a check to the NC College Foundation every month! I know, it seems so old fashioned, but it was, by far, the best experience of my life. There is most definitely a bond you form with your roommates, suitemates and hall mates that neither time nor distance can compete with. And the fact that you don't really have to dress up to go to classes helped too.

A couple weekends ago, Peace held its annual alum weekend party and I, along with several other First Finley girls, packed our best duds and went.

Here are some of the highlights:

Dinner at 18 Seaboard on Friday night.

A science experiment. This well may be the only time I've looked through a microscope. I was a history major after all. But I felt very important wearing this lab coat.

My other very important friends. Robin was right at home in her old lab.

Then we needed to pose with Mr. Peace himself as the class of 2002. Despite some of our faces, we were thrilled to be there.

The party begins. What, no food in front of me. That was about to change. Oh, how quickly that changed.

There was lots of this going on all weekend.

And lots of posing too.

How I love these girls. Forever friends indeed.

My first Quilt

I had been listening to the Elm Creek Quilters book series (well that and walking by the Pottery Barn display window) and was inspired to make a quilt. I am somewhat of a novice when it comes to sewing, but with a little internet research and those 3rd grade sewing lessons resurfacing, I was able to pull this off:

I rather like it. I'm in love with the fabric (don't really care for the traditional "baby" fabric prints), so this quilt makes for a bold baby blanket statement. The fabric is from Moda and is the Arcadia series. I went with a charm pack (variety of precut 5 x 5 inch blocks).

Misty Grey helped me decide the pattern.

This is the pattern she decided on:

It's finished.

I used a soft flannel for the backing. It quilted up real nice.

Since it's my first, I think I'll keep this one. At least the cats will enjoy it.
